CardioPharmaGENET at MEDICON 2026 in Siena

Dr. Adna Ašić presented the Action at the MEDICON 2026 Conference, held in Siena, Italy.

Bringing cardiovascular pharmacogenomics into a conference strongly focused on biomedical engineering provided an opportunity to introduce CardioPharmaGENET to a broader interdisciplinary community and explore connections between genomics, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, medical devices, and regulation.

Dr. Ašić delivered two presentations related to CardioPharmaGENET, with particular interest from participants in the activities of WG3 on AI/ML in Cardiovascular Pharmacogenomics and WG4 on Policy and Regulation of PGx across Europe. Discussions addressed the use of multimodal data for PGx algorithm development and risk assessment, as well as regulatory challenges surrounding the implementation of pharmacogenomics across the European Union and wider Europe.

The conference also opened new interdisciplinary discussions on emerging topics relevant to the future activities of the Action, including the integration of genomic data into digital twins, the regulatory status of genetic testing as in vitro diagnostic medical devices, and the increasing convergence of genomics, AI, biomedical engineering, and clinical practice.

Participation in MEDICON 2026 provided an important opportunity to extend CardioPharmaGENET beyond the traditional pharmacogenomics community, establish new connections, and identify potential directions for interdisciplinary collaboration.
